The Trust for Early Education, a division of the Education Trust, released a report this week calling for early childhood providers to hold Bachelor's degrees. The report makes a strong case through meta-analytic review of eight sound studies. In all cases, the studies found that the student learning of 3- and 4-year-olds was significantly enhanced when children had teachers who held a B.A. at the head of the class. The study is released at a critical moment, as the future of Head Start--including a provision eventually requiring B.A.'s for all instructors--is being debated in Congress as part of the School Readiness Act.
