Amid a slew of other education proposals before the state legislature, Nevada Democrats appear to be jumping on the performance pay bandwagon, but appearances can be deceiving. Along with an automatic $2,000 pay increase (at a cost of $138 million), $40 million would go towards a snoozer of a "merit pay" program that would reward teachers for what they should be doing anyway: teaching children one full grade level per school year. This is merit pay? Wake us up when it's over.
