In just the first two months of 2013 there have been myriad calls for reform from legislative, educational and even citizen action groups. IA Governor Branstad and TN Senator Gresham have both proposed increasing selectivity for teacher prep programs by raising the bar on ACT scores, a goal which the citizen group Center for Michigan is also advocating. CT Governor Malloy recently increased state aid to schools to improve teacher training, and WV Governor Tomblin has proposed that elementary teachers receive specialized training in teaching reading.
This looks like more than just a bandwagon effect.
